We all know how important a good night’s sleep is for our mental and physical health. But even before our heads hit the pillow, our nighttime activities may already be having an effect on the quality of our sleep. Making changes to night-time activities can set you up for a proper night’s sleep and give you the best way to wind down after a busy day.

Having positive bedtime habits can help you fall asleep faster and improve your mental health from the evening all the way until the next morning. Here are a few bedtime habits to help your mind relax and your body slow down to prepare for sleep.

Light up a scented candle

Lighting a scented candle, or using an essential oil diffuser is an aromatherapy technique that helps the body relax. Breathing in your favourite fragrance or calming scents like lavender helps in lowering your stress levels, blood pressure and heart rate which helps to get you to fall asleep faster.

Have a warm drink

There’s nothing like a soothing warm drink at the end of the day to let your body know it's time to wind down. Drinking a warm drink is perfect at all times of the day but it's even better in the evenings to help your body relax. Warm drinks such as chamomile tea, peppermint tea, warm fresh milk or warm almond milk, all have soothing properties when made at the right temperature and can help the body prepare for a good sleep.

Listen to relaxing music

Listening to calming melodies, white noise or a relaxing music playlist can help you get in the right mindset and prepare you for sleep. Sometimes dead silence can add to the pressure to fall asleep quickly but having relaxing music to listen to can give your brain something to concentrate on.

Evening baths

Most people sleep better when their core temperature is lower. Taking this extra step to cool your body down should put you in a relaxed state for sleep. When it gets too cold, wrap yourself or your loved ones up in our hooded poncho towel for extra comfort and instant warmth.

The quality of your sleep affects the way you tackle the next day. By making changes to your bedtime routine it will help improve your mental and physical health for many nights to come.
